Adding titles and credits

Titles and credits let you enhance your movie by adding text-based information to your movie. You can add whatever text you want, but you may want to include information such as the title of your movie, your name, the date, and so forth. 

You can add a title to various places in your movie: at the beginning or end of a movie, before or after a clip, or overlaying a clip. The title plays for the specified amount of time, and then the video clip or picture displays in your movie. The following illustration shows a project that contains a title that displays before a video clip.


The following illustration shows a project that contains a title that displays as a title overlay over a video clip.


The following illustration shows a project that contains credits that display at the end of the project.


When adding titles or credits to a movie, do the following:
  1. Select where you want your title to appear in your movie. For more information about selecting a title location, see Choosing the title location.
  2. Enter text for the title. For more information about adding title text, see Entering title text.
  3. Select an animation style for the title. For more information about choosing a title animation, see Choosing the title animation.
  4. Select the font and colors for your title. For more information, see Selecting the title font and colors.
  5. Add the title to your movie.
Choosing the title location

This page lets you specify where you want to add a title or credit in your movie. By selecting one of the following links, you can begin creating and adding titles or credits to your movie. 

The following options appear on this page. 

Add title at the beginning of the movie. 

Specifies that you want to add a title at the beginning of the movie. You might want to add a title at the beginning of the movie to introduce it to your audience. 

Where the title is added depends on the view you are working in. In the storyboard view, the title appears on the first cell of the storyboard. In the timeline view, the title appears as the first clip on the Video track of the timeline. 

Add title before the selected clip on the storyboard/timeline.

Specifies that you want to add a title before the selected clip on the storyboard/timeline. You might want to add a title that introduces a particular video clip or picture in your movie. 

Where the title is added depends on the view you are working in. In the storyboard view, the title appears before the selected cell of the storyboard. In the timeline view, the title appears before the selected clip on the Video track of the timeline. 

Add title on the selected clip on the storyboard/timeline.

Specifies that you want to add a title on the selected video clip on the timeline. When you select this option, the title appears as an overlay title on top of the video in your movie as it plays back. 

Overlay titles can only be added in the timeline view. 

The title appears on the selected video clip on the Title Overlay track of the timeline. 

Add title after the selected clip on the storyboard/timeline.

Specifies that you want to add a title after the selected clip on the storyboard/timeline. You might want to add a title after a clip in the movie to introduce the next clip or to move from one part of the movie to the next. 

Where the title is added depends on the view you are working in. In the storyboard view, the title appears after the selected cell. In the timeline view, the title appears after the selected clip on the Video track of the timeline. 

Add credits at the end of the movie.

Specifies that you want to add credits at the end of the movie. Credits let you conclude your movie. You may want to add information about the title of the movie, as well as the people shown in the movie. 

Where the credits are added depends on the view you are working in. In the storyboard view, the credits appear on the last cell of the storyboard. In the timeline view, the credits appear after the last clip on the Video track of the timeline by default.

To edit an existing title
  1. On the storyboard/timeline, select the title you want to edit. 
  2. On the Edit menu, click Edit Title. 
  3. On the Enter Text for Title page, type the text you want to appear as the title. 
  4. If you want to change the title animation, click Change the title animation. Then, on the Choose the Title Animation page, select a title animation from the list or if you want to change the text and font colors, click Change the text font and color. Then, on the Select Title Font and Color page, choose the font, font color, formatting, background color, transparency, font size, and position of the title text. 
  5. Click Done to add the title to your movie.
